Same issue. Everything worked fine last night, today the game is crashing just after opening to Mojang logo. crash-2021-12-15_14.37.24-client.txt
also have the same issue crash-2021-12-15_17.14.20-client.txt
Same issue here, seems like a 1.18.1 issue? crash-2021-12-15_18.53.40-client.txt
Let's not forget to mention what we all have in common.
We run 1.18 mods that aren't explicitly marked as supporting 1.18.1
I believe one of the mods we all have in common is causing issues. Which? /shrug
Using some Winmerge ✨ magic ✨, I found every single identical line between our crash logs, mostly to find which mods we have in common.
Pastebin password is modmenu
I hate to think that it may be optifine/optifabric, but other than fabric API, those are the only mods I did my tests with, and it still crashed.
I can still play the game without mod menu, but a lot of features and configs are unavailable, or harder to understand. I haven't tried playing without optifine just yet, but I do need it for some of the resource pack features.
Edit: I would like to note, as well, that when I did crash, it was always something about a menu item of some kind. Either it failed to create it, or locate it.
Had this same issue, removed the mod BCLib (bclib-1.1.1.jar) and this resolved the issue, no more crashes. Also known about on the BCLib mod issues page ( https://github.com/paulevsGitch/BCLib/issues/58 )
Edit: It ALSO crashes when using optifine (OptiFine_1.18.1_HD_U_H4) and optifabric (optifabric-1.12.10.jar) so there's a couple of incompatibilities here and there, it seems
@ShadoUrufu, firstly, you should probably give a try to lithium, sodium & iris over optifine, much better.
Second, optifine is not the problem. I don't have optifine installed.
@AngelFluffyOokami I have actually tried them. And they do not work well for me, on account of being too modular.
With my current resource pack(that i really love using btw) I get white grass textures with sodium. I have to find a mod for connected textures, block models, mob models, enabling my skybox pack, and a few other things. Oh, and at one point, one of those mods was causing my entire world to show up as missing textures.
Furthermore, I can't use Irisshader due to a lack of being able to modify the shader configs, and make them not lag my PC. I have the configs setup the way I like for BSL(as an example) but iris doesn't read that file.
Yes, maybe I can try to tinker with all of those various mods for hours to try and get them to work well for me. But I know optifine works, and it's easier for me to setup. And it's less mods to keep track of/update at every new MC cycles.
Anyway, TL/DR; Way too many parts, and a bit too complex for me at the present time.
@ShadoUrufu @AngelFluffyOokami Current up to date versions (as of Dec 16, 2021 1:48 CST) of Optifine (OptiFine_1.18.1_HD_U_H4) and optifabric (optifabric-1.12.10.jar) and BCLib (bclib-1.1.1.jar) are all currently incompatible with current version of Mod Menu (modmenu-3.0.0) on 1.18.1, can confirm

Great.. I mean, optifine stuff, I can kind of understand, the author isn't that fond of making things easy for people. But I was hoping to play with Better Nether, and whatever else required that mod. I'll need ot take it out to get a list.
Edit: Just Better Nether right now. and Better End later on. Does modmenu just make it easier for configs, or do certain mods actually need it?
@ShadoUrufu At least some good news, the makers of BCLib are already aware of the situation as of 8 hours ago, so there should be a fix depending on how well they can figure it out. And as far as the Optifine/optifabric issue goes, it seems it should be a fix soon because the creator was working on it just a few hours ago.
One thing you could try and do, enable all but the incompatible mods, use mod menu to configure your settings for the mods there, then shut down minecraft, enable the incompatible mods, disable mod menu and then that should theoretically work, Mod Menu helps to configure things but I don't think it is absolutely, 100% necessary to have at all times installed and enabled

99% on that one actually. I just went into my modmenu folder, and say the 'Notify' mod in there too. So that's at least one mod that doesn't work. But yeah, I'll look into those updates over the days.
Closing as this issue appears to be resolved by updating the relevant mods. Feel free to reopen if the issue persists.
It crashes when i try to load any mods, aside from: Fabric API, Optifabric, Optifine,
everything used to work yesturday. And all I've done is updated some mods, that weren't even included in the tests that caused the crashes.
