How do I rate the work?

Tetrakern commented 1 year ago

You mean how to rate a story/chapter? Fictioneer does not have such a system, on purpose.

And there won't be?

No, I will not add a rating feature. Unless someone pays me an obscene amount of money. Because ratings are meaningless.

The vast majority of readers lacks the skill to rate anything, because they cannot differ between their personal taste and an objective perspective. Like something? It's a 10! Do not like something? It's a 1! What's such a score supposed to tell me? Yes, good stories get good ratings. The problem is that bad stories get good ratings too. Because they tend to live in echo chambers. But that's not half of it.

I have seen people use ratings as means to blackmail authors into writing what they want.

I have seen authors squander their talent to chase numbers instead of making art, always catering to the latest trend or fetish.

I have seen stories get downvoted because they had a genre the reader didn't like. I do not like medieval fantasy; would you say it's fair of me to downvote a story because it happens to be medieval fantasy?

The list goes on. Anyway, I will not enable this.
