Dummy game icons appear after a failed Steam installation - now nothing works! #62

So this may just be an issue with my particular installation, but for the life of me I can't figure this one out:

I want to install Fallout: New Vegas via Steam through Barrel, so I followed the steps and it seemed to be working - Steam opened up, asked me to login, and then I downloaded the game. At this point, I think I clicked "Install" but then cancelled the install, because I couldn't remember whether I needed to do this. So STUPIDLY, I then pressed the "x" at the top (which I now know you're not supposed to do), and then waited and waited for anything to happen. I think I ended up quitting everything, and starting over.

But HERE is where I run into my current issue, and I can't seem to get around it. Now when I try and do the exact same procedure, two things are different: For one, there is a popup: "Error deleting downloading archive! Please remove manually." But I press OK and then it continues. It gets to the warning about how Steam will start installing, but then it never comes up with the Steam install window - instead, the icon for the game appears in my library, but it doesn't open. Which kind of makes sense because in my mind it needs to download it again. But it won't let me!

I've tried reinstalling Barrel, deleting preferences, deleting Application Support folders, restarting computer, deleting anything and everything to do with Barrel before restarting, but nothing seems to work! Surely somehow Barrel is "remembering" that I downloaded Fallout New Vegas, but I actually haven't (at least, I don't think it finished installing), so now each time I try to do a fresh install of the game all I get are dummy icons for the game that I can't play.
