Reported by jenniferdaub on 2008-12-24 09:57 UTC We would like to add a new term for cis regulatory frameshift elements such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antizyme\_RNA\_frameshifting\_stimulation\_element http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV\_Ribosomal\_frameshift\_signal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus\_frameshifting\_stimulation\_element

aspect: sequence_attribute term: cis_regulatory_frameshift_element definition: structural region in an RNA molecule which promotes ribosomal frameshifting of cis coding sequence Parent term: is_a sequence_secondary_structure (SO:0000122)

thanks

Commented by eilbeck on 2009-01-09 22:28 UTC Hi Jennifer, How about this:

cis_regulatory_frameshift_element is_a regulatory_region

I see that the things you are annotating with this term are structures. Does it make sense that would would class it as a region?

For the purposes of Rfam families it helps us to be able to tag a sequence region as having a structure with function. We don't see a problem with it being in SO but but you/the ontology peeps might disagree?.
