I've removed the large file from the commit history using BFG so all commits changed. BFG doesn't touch the last commit so I deleted it first, along with the duplicate .Rproj file and updated the .gitignore on the root rather than the data/ folder.

It should be ok to merge as the histories should be ok but if there are big merge conflicts let me know.
