First thanks for all the effort on the code. I started designing a PCB for your code. Eagle PCB design here https://github.com/lpgn/welduino. image Its not complete yet. I am not a professional so I appreciate any input on my design or any schematics or photos of your rig. Best regards,

Hi LUCIO my name is Martin.  I was writing to you very long ago  I am so glad you write my back. I am interested in any mig/mag welder controllers. Which software do you use for PCB design? Do you use EAGLE software?  I built mig/mag controller according your code, but it was very very difficult. Do you made any update in your arduino code? (please see attached file)

Hi @mato333 I did not write the code :-). The person who wrote the code is Andrew @TheAndyRoid . I am just like you trying to use his code. I started designing a PCB in eagle. Did you manage to run the welder running Andrew's code? Maybe we can work together. Do you have schematics?

mato333 commented 3 years ago

Hi , ok i understand.  I was writing to TheAndyRoid https://github.com/TheAndyRoid but hi did not respond to me.  I was trying code and i did not have any schematics.  I connected arduino and others parts together only base on arduino code, and i connected part with some wires base on pins and pin numbers which i read in arduino code. I do not try all functions, but i can to tell it is working.  I have only one issue with rotary encoder. I thinks it is very sensitive and prone to human hands, and electromagnetics disturbance and interference. I vould like to try another type of rotary encoder.  I hope you can understand me. I can not speaking english very wel.  I have one question, how did you find me?? :)

@lpgn and @mato333 I only got to the prototype stage with this code, so it was not much more than a breadboard, rotary encoder, lcd screen, hbridge driver and a small dc motor attached. Most of the other outputs were simple LEDs or not used. https://i.imgur.com/gm1zT9A.jpg is without the h bridge driver/motor attached.

I never did build a full working version and the project was abandoned.

Some electrical advice I can give though if you really want to make this into a proper project

A lot of it was only tested in theory so there may or may not be bugs.

haha I did not find you @mato333 github did. You are probably watching the project and when I opened the issue it sent you an notification something changed in the project.

Some electrical advice I can give though if you really want to make this into a proper project

* Electrical isolation/filtering of outputs and inputs. Welders make lots of electrical noise.

* Oversize the motor H bridge driver and protect it. I broke a few driver ICs even with a small motor from voltage spikes.

* A cheap rotary encoder needs debouncing hardware/software its very sensitive to human input.

A lot of it was only tested in theory so there may or may not be bugs.

Thanks for your answer @TheAndyRoid. I will try building a pcb and then try using your code. will update any progress.

@TheAndyRoid https://github.com/TheAndyRoid i have few questions.  1.Q how does work measuring Electrical voltage and electrical current ?  2Q would it possible change code because for example the parameter BURN BACK i can settings up to about 64 secounds , and it is very very much . Which parameter in to code have to change if i vant set BURN BACK up to max 5 secound. Thank you for your answer.

@mato333

Q1.1 a voltage divider with high resistance values and a zener diode to limit the voltage to <5v. Connected between ground and torch, I was going to use a voltage divider for range 0 - 50v mapping to 0 - 5v. Q1.2 A shunt resistor of correct size, I was going to use 300A shunt. You can then measure the voltage drop across resistor and calculate current. Opamp might be needed to amplifiy voltage so current of 300a is mapped to 5v. Q2 Code has no control on limits, 64 seconds is way to long for burn back. It would need some modification to MenuItem struct to store a minimum and maximum and then check it in int_process, similar to limits for percentage.

mato333 commented 3 years ago

<https://github.com/TheAndyRoid https://github.com/TheAndyRoid> hello thank you for the reply yes i understand that. I have a question could you adjust the code so that the BURN BACK function can be set to a maximum of 2 or 3 seconds? Then I might be able to adjust the limit of other functions as well. thank you

that's good news that it works for you, are you using arduino uno or arduino mega? Do you have a problem with the rotary encoder? Does your rotary encoder work reliably? Could you please send me some photos to my email @.*** anything that would help me in building a board for my welding machine? (for example, a scheme in the eagle program, PCB and so on) I want to ask you, did you modify the source code somehow? I know, sorry I have a lot of questions, but I also need to build a control board for my welding machine. What motor driver did you use?

please see this web page, can you please to try connect rottary encoder to pin 2 and 3 ? (it seems there are pins for rottary encoder) [https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_Encoder.html#polling] maybe it will be works better, what do you think ?? image
