I don't think it is extremely important in most cases as I don't see why one would need such narrow windows, but you never know what use case comes up.
I was thinking, it never really makes sense to hide the very last remaining shown segment in the modeline even if the window is too narrow for it, right ?
It should be real simple to implement and I'm keen on doing it eventually, except if someone does it first and get to know a little bit of the code 😉
