Barker has been working towards the synthesis of the iodo-analogue (2) of pyrimethamine (Daraprim). We have successfully completed the synthesis but need to work on improving yields and purity and obtaining full characterisation of all compounds.
In particular, we had significant issues isolating the final compound. It appears to have different solubility to the parent compound (Daraprim) and didn't crystallise as expected. We managed to isolate a small amount to obtain preliminary data but would need to optimise this significantly to obtain more material.
