A little bit of nostalgia and glove cosmetics[suggestion, idea] #50

Did you remember old variant of glove? It's wands and stuff. Like glove, thay using focuses. So, why not to add alternative variants of glove form? For example, "transformation infusion" that will change form of glove to wand, stuff or even turn it invisible (in invisible case model should be in hand texture to be visible in inventory and invisible on skin). Just like little bit of customisation and nostalgia)

I'm don't think I'm going to add wands as there are plenty of addons that do that. However, what I can do is try to get gauntlets working with morphic tools. That way, people can disguise their gauntlets as wands if they want that nostalgia.

I was mean to add infusion (or anything else) that will change just model and texture of glove. Thaumcraft 6 power functional, welp, already not bad. And new system "vis" better then 6 primal aspects in wand/stuff. I just seek out that both variants using focus spells. It's shouldn't be so hard to make new model. Texture contain foundation and focus(should work like glove). Just cosmetic idea. Also about morph cosmetics. Why not to make it function with focus? Better to choose spell from icons rather than color ball.(for example: visual (any item, seals looks cool), function of focus)

At all, i just found that glove is combination of old wands and new 6 aspects wands. Using focuses from new wands and power source of old wands.

I currently use Armourer's Workshop to disguise caster's gauntlets as wands. They don't have any focal augmentations, but if I were so inclined I could build a bunch of dye bottles and just recolor some crystal to the focus in use, though I'd be doing so manually each time.

To do this, you must first add each type of caster's gauntlet (that's four in total, including the two from this mod and the Elementium Caster's Gauntlet from Thaumic Periphery) to the list of skinnable objects, and since most of the wands in the global library are of sword or pickaxe type, rarely of item type, I add those types to the caster's gauntlet allow list. It does mean they can be reskinned as swords, but morphic tools let you do something similar anyway so this doesn't bother me. Once done, you grab an appropriate wand from the global library or build one yourself, load it from the appropriate table onto a blank skin, and stick it onto a caster's gauntlet via the skinning table.

Okay so I have some feedback on the Gauntlet's dyeability.

I see a trend among modded gauntlets- they usually are two toned in the same places. Elementium Caster's Gauntlet has pink and purple stripes that follow the design all the way around, while the Thaumium and Voidseer's Caster's Gauntlets have this purple and dark purple stripe in all of the same places as the Elementium's hot pink spots. These areas are not affected by dye at all and they clash with so many choice colors like green, blue, and occasionally red depending on gauntlet.

Guys, here's what the basic caster's gauntlet looks like: 2020-12-07_18 49 44 The only place that looks like there's metal around it is the fingertips. I'd really like more of the gauntlet model to be re-dyed.

The number one reason this bugs me is because I like to add the Gauntlets to Extra Bit Manipulation cosmetic armor so I look like I'm wearing gloves on both hands. (I could in theory set a caster's focus to the model when I add it as a cosmetic, which could fool people into thinking I have a focus effect when I don't, or a safe focus when I have a combative one, but I choose not to) I should note that adding an Armourer's skin doesn't affect how it renders on my person when I add it to an Extra Bit cosmetic armor, a fact I find quite amusing., but adding a focus to it does.

Wands

So it's been a while, in case you have not seen it there is "Thaumic Wands" which does add back wands, so you might want to look into that.

Gauntlet Models

I agree they could be way better. Sadly I am absolutely terrible at art (we don't talk about the 1.0.0 textures...) so I would need help in improving them. But if I understand what you're saying, you mostly want the dyeable area to increase, with the "metal" material really only being in a few choice places like the fingertips?

DoomRater commented 3 years ago

That's very accurate. I should have included some dyed examples of the gauntlets and when I recolor them to values that clash with the undyed, metal bits. If those areas didn't wrap around the whole gauntlet and instead just around the slot for the focus, I think it'd look much nicer. I've done a bit of pixel editing in the ZDoom community (never got amazingly good at it, just adequate) so I'll edit a mockup.
