The multiplier has been seriously nerfed now.
It runs from 1.0 (easiest skill) to 1.4 (hardest skill) instead of 0.5 - 2.5.
In the new setup, the hardest difficulty level scores 1.4 times as many points
as the easiest difficulty level. In the old setting, the hardest difficulty
level scored 5 times as many points as the easiest difficulty level.
The new setup should be far more balanced, especially because enemies have more
health at harder difficulty levels, which automatically means slightly higher
scores.
But it is harder, so there is a bigger chance of dying.
