Add a feature so that MD prevented the creation of a security if the Ticker Symbol has already been used. If the user tries to create a security with a duplicate ticker, on clicking OK, MD should give a warning and points to the existing Security thus blocking duplicates. I have seen this done in other Personal financial software.
Allowing duplicate ticker for the same security creates a number of problems and on realising duplicate exists the user then struggles to get back to a situation where there is only one instance set up under Securities.
I can’t think of any reason why a user would need to set up security with duplicate tickers.
The only case that gets close is where the user wants holdings in a security that is traded on different stock exchanges. In these instances, the user should set up two different securities by adding an exchange code appropriate to the source being used to obtain prices,
Example: Westpac Banking Corp trade on a number of markets e.g., Australia and Berlin. So instead of using the ticker WBC, for Australia stock exchange use WBC:AU and for the Berlin stock exchange use WBC:BE for the source Yahoo.
