Thanks @cloudislands for the detailed diagram. That will definitely help with the planning and execution of the dust collection. A few concerns I have are:

• Air is right next to where the current storage is. We need to consider where we will keep storage misc. parts
• Air is also next to the internal circuitry/wiring for the door/internet/etc. We'd need to be very careful about that.
• I forget, was there a plan for a "movable air unit" as a temporary workaround? Could/would that change the layout?

Tommy thx for your comments. A couple of quick points and specific responses inline;

The layout was driven by noise considerations, then estimated space req by specific machine. Thus no machines against the interior wall for less noise impact within the lab, extra space for the miter cutting station/cabinets to allow for longer pieces and additional storage and less space for the table top drill press and so on...

My main concern a month in this now is that there is no sense of urgency around the workshop and that there is not a consistent message about the intention of the space i.e. woodshop vs craftsroom. I've reached out to several folks I was told would have a vested interest in the shop and it just doesn't seem to be a priority. (Is there a better method to communicate these discussions to a broader group?)

A smaller portable unit is versitale, plenty powerful, quieter and can be connected via many DIY methods including automated smart valves at station. Happy to elaborate in another post.. Storage; the interior wall would house large peg board storage along with shelves and cabinets etc

CloudIslands, I think a good way to resolve a lot of the waffling over the air system is to have a list addressing pros, cons, and costs. I've heard several people find units that will "do the job," but frankly I don't think that everyone (myself included) has enough information on the matter to actually make a committed decision.

Personally I don't think we need a huge system; I think a smaller, portable stepping stone would be good for growth. The idea behind the shop is to bring more members; more members mean more money, and (ideally) eventually moving to a larger space that necessitates a giant system.

I am all for pegboard systems. The less shelves, the less space they are eating up, and the less crap they collect. Pegboards can hold shelves for things that need it; larger items can have built-in storage below workbenches. In my design, I tried to keep as much storage on the walls as possible.

Regarding the urgency, I agree that has been lacking. (I was recently elected to Facilities coordinator and then out-of-country for 2 weeks and came back home to multiple deaths, so it hasn't been the top priority for me.)

The plan for the "triangle room" is one piece of the puzzle for the overall facilities and budget which I am working on now. It will be discussed in the upcoming "Improve the Space" meeting this Sunday (https://www.meetup.com/TheLab-ms/events/251603931/).

I invite you (and anyone else interested) to attend as we will solidify the requirements and plan to fulfill on the workshop.

P.S. I'm a fan of a smaller, mobile unit if that will prevent us from having a huge expense and spread the cost out.

Here formal quote on machine with basic connections based on my meeting with woodcraft management. They priced by pulling in a sale coming in august to give us 10% off the machine and avoid any price increases happening with tariffs. 50% off accessories.

I obtained copies of their safety documents they use for each machine and he committed to having one of his trainer come over to do a kick off meeting as well as speak with corp regarding promoting the space in their promotional emails.

Keep in mind that no dust collection capture everything and that the most vulnerable areas are at the specific machine. I suggest we kickoff with a simple of a miterstation/cabinet that has a dome which will help capture aditional dust. This would be a great and simple project to get interested parties involved and only take a few hours.
