This is not an issue per se but I didn't know where to write it otherwise. Feel free to move it wherever you see fit.

This is a HOWTO for people on macOS with an ARM chip because the game is particularly tricky to run with that particular combination of platform and hardware. It took me two full days to try different methods, trying different virtualization softwares, installing different VMs etc. After two full days, I found only one way to make it work, hence why I think this guide might be useful to someone somewhere so that they don't waste their time like I did, trying to make it work by other means.

Steps:

1. Download the 14 days free trial of Parallels Desktop: https://www.parallels.com/eu/products/desktop/trial/

I tried other virtualization softwares but unfortunately the performance boost from the proprietary Parallels Desktop product is needed in order to play the game properly through a VM on a MacBook Air M2. Let me know if you manage to have it run smoothly using another free virtualization software instead.

2. The game will NOT install on Windows 11 ARM so you need to copy the files at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Lego Media\Lego Bionicle (Rebuilt)” from a prior installation. One way to do so is to run the installer through Whisky on your Mac first: https://github.com/Whisky-App/Whisky/releases

3: The game will NOT run after copying the files as you also need to install the Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes from Microsoft: https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x86.exe

4: Run LegoBionicle.exe from the game files and play the game!

5. You may want to right click on the game executable, properties, and set it to run in “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” compatibility mode. I could finish Onua’s level without setting this option but I couldn’t enter Gali’s level without it as the game would otherwise crash before actually entering the level. I got an insane number of crashes while playing the game so I switched the Windows XP compatibility mode on and off at times in hopes that it would help with the next crash. Honestly the crashes all seemed very random to me, but I was nevertheless able to complete the entire game thanks to the awesome people who made Rebuilt possible !

6. Don’t forget to finish the game before the Parallels Desktop free trial period of 14 days is over!
