I found https://www.openmediavault.org an excellent NAS solution based on Debian. Maybe you have already tried it or would like to try it?

hello, thanks for the suggestion I haven't tested the latest version of openmediavault. I am not sure if I will test it.

Last time I tested it, openmediavault was version 3.0 or something like that and looks like they are on version 7.0 now... a quick research I kind of agree with this review of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=hEAwyMljJRs

In short, it looks good for a basic essential NAS but I think Proxmox or Debian/Ubuntu with Cockpit Web UI is probably a much better and simpler configuration.

• My brutally honest opinion is that I am not a fan of their user interface, but same goes for TrueNAS which is probably "the NAS OS" if you want to do heavy zfs stuff.
• Cockpit based https://www.45drives.com/solutions/houston/ on top of Debian or Proxmox (inside a LXC container) provides a much better user experience
