Not all quotes link to a post: some reference information posted from an article, for example.

If this function is meant for the quote button of a post, that's fine. If it makes it next to impossible to quote things other than a post, then no.

I don't know how easy it would be to grab the date but it shouldn't be too hard to grab the post id so you would have it like this:

We used to have this ability on the quick quote function but that doesn't work anymore for some reason and got commented out.

just check out nearly every other forum software such as MyBB or SMF for an example if you're curious to how it works

What do you disagree with? Do you disagree that it should be done automatically with the post button and you can use the quote tag for things other than posts too?

Or are you just arguing for the sake of it?

Agreed, link the username to the user's profile.

Who's going to know to click an image like lastpost.gif versus a URL? Other than those who are in this discussion, that is. It's more about functionality than aesthetics and I don't think URLs look bad at all.

For instance, I didn't know that clicking the Image icon next to "Posted:" gave you a link to your post until recently.

Because people will use it.
You don't need to constantly turn down the suggestion just because you think it's not going to be used. It's not going to make a difference to you when it's so subtle.

Because people will use it.
You don't need to constantly turn down the suggestion just because you think it's not going to be used. It's not going to make a difference to you when it's so subtle.

yeah it doesn't have to be a big thing, i don't know what benefit it would be if it was. just something that's there for people who are interested in "what post did this come from"- usually only matters in cross-thread quotes but still nice to have for longer threads too. pretty much most of the time no one's going to touch it
