RFC: Recommended Steam Deck Bindings

With version 2.1.0 of Nexus LU Launcher, LEGO Universe can be launched on the Steam Deck. Launch is the key work - LEGO Universe has no gamepad support. Handling that is up to us, and I want feedback on the recommended keybinds.

For Best Results

• Install the Flatpak (see the README).
• Add Nexus LU Launcher to Steam as a non-Steam Game. This is done in desktop mode and will appear in the list of desktop applications if the Flatpak is used.
• Launch Nexus LU Launcher in desktop mode, launch the game, log in, and select a character. In the video settings, enable windowed mode and then exit. For some reason in game mode, the cursor can disappear when left in full screen.

Current Layout

The initial setup was from testing on an old Darkflame Universe instance at Avant Gardens.

Current Issues

• Mouse locking does not work in game mode. This is probably because of Gamescope (desktop compositor for game mode) using Wayland and WINE using XWayland. Either waiting for the WINE Wayland driver or updating Nexus LU Launcher to launch LEGO Universe in "rootful" XWayland mode.
• Using the mouse is required for character selection and prompts. Binding A to Enter could be used to accept prompts but invoke the chat every time you jump.
• Unintended inputs using the DPad happen a lot, especially when in menus. Be prepared to spend some imagination after opening the menu and disconnecting.
• No considerations have been made for racing, shooting galleries, properties, or menus.
• The current layout only works on devices with trackpads. Devices like the ASUS ROG Ally or MSI Claw would not work well.
• The launcher itself does not support gamepads. Doing so may be tricky if the bindings for normal inputs (like the DPad) if they are mapped away.

Feedback Request

I want the Steam Deck to be a reasonable option for playing LEGO Universe. While I have a Steam Deck, I do not have enough experience creating custom bindings or modding the client to hook directly into the client. If you've got any ideas, please comment below. Remember that this is for the launcher, which supports patches. Patching the client or creating a background process to handle inputs are both options.

I have created a new layout, which can be found by opening steam://controllerconfig/2672019776/3160129134. It addresses points 2, 3a, and 3d (untested for shooting galleries and properties).

For now, I am closing this, but please comment with any suggestions with the new layout. It will be used in release 2.2.0 using the "Steam One-Click" patch.
