Update community-rules.md to include memes #289

Because

We don't have a meme channel so people often resort to any non-specific channel to still share them, like bot-spam, off-topic (which includes no-memes in the description but it still happens), club-40 etc.

I think this needs to be more explicitly mentioned to avoid confusion for community members and avoid moderators having to keep repeating that it's not something we want to see in our server, without a sufficiently specific rule backing it up.

I'm not sure this is the best place to mention memes. In the expanded version of this rule, it has a list of things that we consider not relevant to the curriculum. I believe this is where we should mention memes.

The following resources are not relevant to our curriculum and should not be posted. If you have extraordinary circumstances that you would like to be considered, you are welcome to message ModMail for permission: Link to a resource you created for personal or monetary gain Request to have people fill out a survey Link to join another server/community Articles or blog posts on unrelated topics/languages Fundraising or donation drives Job posts or recruitment

Also, I believe it would be useful to have a distinction between posting a random meme and the accepted practice of responding to a conversation with a meme.

I was wondering which was more fitting and was thrown off by the expanded section seemingly being more related to articles or other actual resources not being images. But I understand and agree.

About the distinction being made: I think the distinction we have (but not in writing) is more along the lines of: reaction gifs in response to someone else, vs someone randomly sharing a meme. I do agree they are sometimes very similar. Perhaps we should flesh that out amongst ourselves then first, what we do and don't find acceptable or consider a meme?

@ManonLef what do you think about this wording to add to the list of non-relevant resources? At first I wanted to use "reaction gif", but then decided that could cause confusion with Discord's use of emoji reactions.

Memes, even if they are programming-related. It is acceptable to reply in a conversation with an appropriate gif.

I agree that is better and have added a slightly edited version of your proposal @rlmoser99 . I changed "appropriate" to "relevant". If you don't agree, I'll happily change it back.

I'm conflicted about ending that list item with a period, but I might have been staring at the google list style guide for too long.
