v4.0.0-alpha.. ? #1324

I can't seem to find any notes on what is being baked into the tag labeled v4.0.0-alpha.

What is the motivation behind v4.. its been a long time since a major upgrade. I'm back working on my sol-based project and look forward to whatever is being added!
