Release package on CRAN

In order for the loanportr package to have significant traction in the R community, we need to submit it to CRAN.

Submitting to CRAN is a lot more work than just providing a version on GitHub, but the vast majority of R users do not install packages from GitHub, because CRAN provides discoverability, ease of installation and a stamp of authenticity.

Submitting to CRAN would be great! In the meantime, I think there are a couple of other actions that could aid discoverability:

• Generate a static website of the package info with pkgdown.
• Besides the current company website, a projects page can be useful too, targeted to developers and analysts. For this I recommend the easy-to-use blogdown package, which uses Hugo as a static generator and R Markdown to write the contents. Then you can submit the page info to Awesome Blogdown.
• Create vignettes of loanportr business cases using dummy data.
• Add topics to the GH repo as explained here. Suggested topic labels: r, rstats, finance, fintech, credit-scoring, portfolio-analysis, loan-portfolio, etc.
• For a more relaxed forum-style conversation with the community, consider to integrate Gitter in the repo. As an example, RStudio is experimenting with this interaction mode in the sparklyrpackage.
• Spread the word through blog posts/links via social media (twitter, medium, etc), and submitting them to R Weekly and R Bloggers (although the latter is managed by a very busy person and isn't always responsive).
