Currently, the portable manifests (qimgv, qimgv-video) in the extras bucket simply download and extract the archive from the GitHub releases. This results in them not being associated with the relevant file types, or registering as a photo/video viewer, and there is currently no easy way to do this once they are installed.
The GitHub releases also offer installers which can handle this, though I'm pretty sure they cause a UAC prompt.
