notifications of x seconds not played on own turn and y seconds time left event #787

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. prefernce for time remaining event
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Want a way to attach a script (warning sound) to inform that have not played
for x seconds after other player has played. Useful when your distracted, walk
away after waiting for other user and changed window. then come back to
computer and forget to check game. meanwhile while u were AFK opponent moved
and you missed sound.

So can we have an event like 'x' seconds since its your turn so i can play a
message every x seconds or first xth second?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system and
what environment?
Raptor .98u3f5
MAC book pro

Please provide any additional information below.
if there is another way to get time running out notifications that would be
good. i looked arond the wiki but did not find it

Thanks for the feature request.

However, I'm not entirely convinced that it would be a good idea to implement
it. Oh, I aggree that it would be useful, but I'm afraid it may be against
chess regulations. Normally, nobody is allowed to signal a player that the time
is running out (in over-the-board chess)

The thing is that I would prefer that Raptor is not banned from sites because
it offers its users unfair advantages. Your request might result in just that.

E.g. I would like to feed Raptor my favourite opening lines so that the program
responds immediately for as long as the opponent plays known opening moves.
However, if I were to implement such a feature, that might be considered
cheating by other players, akin to using an opening book during a game but also
with added advantage that I would not lose any time (personally, I tend to use
at least one second per move, just for moving the mouse around on the screen
for executing a move)

Perhaps someone from FICS might shed a light on this?

rules

All right, just sent a mail to FICS to ask them if they would be fine with this
feature or not. I will update this thread when I get a response from them.

Regards.

For now you don't. However, I get a notification mail for every change to
any/new issue. Or is there something you wanted to mail me off this forum? (I
did see your mail address in full, so I could send you an email so that you
have my address)

Two things:

1) I already sent an email to that address yesterday

2) "sent" is past tense, if I'm not mistaken: I already tried to contact FICS
but got a permanent delivery errror (so I won't try again)
