The app should function to the maximum extend possible in the presence of component failures.

For example:

if the viewport is not present, the app should not offer to do vision screening
if the stepper motor is not available, but the viewport is, the app should offer to do static screening
if the main screen is not present, but the viewport is, it should display a friendly apology
