You said you got rid of the spring blocks of blocks just randomly popping up in the spring. Well if you play the mod without that feature the winter snow is going to clear all the foliage except the leaves on the trees. and this then forces players going far and wide for foliage when you already use to have that feature implemented at earlier versions.
Also the reason why BOP wasn't working I think is you should grab your blocks, biomes and etc at post init where no other mod is going to register their stuff at.
