I've tried to install CWM and does not work, I think the phone won't enter in download mode, because Odin can't see him. Allways is white screen.
Update: Odin sees now my phone. I've flashed the phone with CWM 6.0.3.3.b2 and it won't enter in recovery mode. I reflashed again stock rom and displays white screen when i start the phone or put it in download mode. I don't know how to flash the latest CWM 6.0.3.5 in zip format( wich is flashable) from github.
Try to enter in recovery mode. Leave it without battery for ten minutes, and then enter recovery (press power, vol up+vol down, and home together, when you see screen, let go power and keep holding other buttons.)
I tried, but nothing. Do not want to start in recovery mode, the screen stays off.
This is not live support, keep everything on-topic.
With all due respect for your work should know all who read this that white screen problem started since I installed your the latest build CM 10.1- 30.08.2013(G). In the last 3 builds i had no white screen, described as is in your thread on xda by some users. Because issue described by me was not reported until now, i think, my posts here is useful.
no, they are not. People are spamming about that every day. It's getting annoying.
easy big guy.. we only have nothing but respect for you and all your work so far you're one of the best hard working developer i've known but for some of us me included i check like 5 times daily to see if someone came up with a solution because frankly if i'm not going to install your rom to my mini 2 then i got no use for it because yours is the best and most updated
True i second what @dieselz said, i await a fix from you as well... And thanks for the good work so far. P.s. White screen are less true, if phone doesn't do anything, if cpu is left alone...

I can not believe, you said that is off topic, since my problem started when I had installed CM 10.1 build 30.08.2013. An opinion, an idea, any advice that would be my starting point would be useful. It is clear that i can not provide catlogs or kmsg, the phone starts with white screen. But I have more expectations from you because you are recognized developer and of course I took some risks (too many i think) when I installed CM 10.1. Of course, I carefully read your thread on XDA and i trusted you . But how can you be so cynical ? And if i can not post here, then where? TheWisp developer should not know these things? Or did not care?
How do you expect me to work (or fix) a bug that I cannot even reproduce? I mean, how can I test it? And do you think that just because I'm an RD I should be able to fix everything?
@micsialdracu
I think you should read these line carefully and with understanding on the CM10.1 thread on XDA.

@NaokiXie You think I have not read the disclaimer ? That disclaimer disclaim all liability legal, but moral responsibility do you think is ? I think this moral is sometimes forgotten by... Anyway....It would have been useful to give a solution, not to spamm.
@TheWhisp Could you please provide us with every detail to setup cm10.1 (Base rom ... the way to do it from the start again ....The clock work mod version you are using .... etc )I know these are mentioned in the main thread but this just to make sure of everything. I believe that all phones have the same LCD HW so the problem may be with way of installing the rom :) I'm Sorry for the bad English and for disturbing you :D
I have S6500DXXLD3 baseband, CWM 6.0.3.3 b2
Thnx :+1: I'll try with these two and report as soon as I finish
@TheWhisp Sorry again, does the region make any difference ? & Which One you are using ? :)
Don't know why is closed, I just really want to get this fixed.
Here 6.0.3.6, baseband ME1, lastest CM10.1 29.09.2013, here is KMSG
Hope it show something new.
Same problem here :/ I hope it get fixed soon .
hopely it is fixed , now :100:
hi everybody. i have problem "white screen". And i think a way can overcome this problem. Is using Daydream Launcher free in Google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brianco.daydreamlauncher&hl=vi 1- Turn on Daydream Go to Settings > Device > Display. Touch Daydream. Slide the switch to On.
2.Time to sleep
Go to Settings > Device > Display. Touch Sleep. Touch one of the options.i think shoud set 30 minutes.
Hi .
New angle: A few month ago I've upgraded my daughter's SGM2 to CM10.1, while doing that , I had the white screen , after reinstalling it with dif CM vers , GA vers and even TWRP on the road ,finally it has CM root 6.0.6 , and I believe that CM 10.1 with version of august 2013 . But in the end it works fine . Yesterday, I tried to do the same for my wife's phone (bought in the same store 2 weeks earlier, but I believe it from the same batch!) , No use . I even installed CM 10.2 , it's the same . Woke up this morning click the power button and ... it worked ! Click the power button again to put it to sleep, again to awaken it and ... it's all white .
I saw someone wrote that 7/7 works in the goo web site it does not save which version , it just says the date , can you give me the date of that version that I will try it ?
Thanks !
i suggest use this first for white screen fix https://github.com/TheWhisp/android_device_samsung_msm7x27a-common/issues/113
I was searching alot for a solution to our problem and I found this . http://galaxy-mini-2.blogspot.com/2013/11/fix-pantalla-en-blanco-al-bloquear.html . The comments say that this method is useless but I tried it myself on CM 10.1 Build 20.9 with a little change...........(I made the Max 122880 Like the minimum ) . I have lag on the lock screen because of clocking the cpu that low ...... but the white screen appears but less than before -appears about 20 time a day - . I hope that helps in any thing :)
Hi .
Thank you for the idea , but 20 a day is also too much , I's prefer returning the device to ver 2.3.6 …
I did download the boot.img , but did not get to the part of flashing it to the device (I saw I have to download some utilities and write down some scripts , I must have the time for that …) .
I will let you know if it helped within a few days .
Thanks a lot ,
Guy .

20 Times a day aren't that bad .......... most of the time no white screen when this happens press the power button 4 or 6 times to get it working again :) . . . We must give it a try if we want things to be better ............... Davis can't fix every thing alone . If you want log just tell me how to do it -Because I'm newbie to Android ) & I'll do my best Thanks For your efforts , Davis .
Well ,
I tried flashing it in various ways :
Couldn’t find a GUI tool that works on SGM2 .
Adb recognizes the device , but fastboot.exe does not .
Tried to compile a zip and use update.zip in CWM recovery , I get an error 7 , TWRP also not applicable on SGM2.
Any other ideas ?

Hi, I also have a jenad with the white screen bug. I am using CM10.1 20.09.2013. Once, i wanted to unlock the screen, but it was white. I locked it and i waited ~15 secs then i unlocked it, and it worked.(I am using the setcpu trick) Here are the logs: http://pastebin.com/MF45XHSY
Hope it helps!
UPDATE: I tested the phone as #104 and probably this is the reason for the white screen. At 29°C no white screen, but at 30°C there is a white screen. @TheWhisp , can you add something to the kernel, that tells the phone, that the battery temperature is eg 25 °C , or is it too dangerous?
Thanks! fgzuzu
I had boot loop while installing 10.2 The repartitioning trick works well After Updating the white screen appears In 3 positions 1st- when you lock the screen 2nd- offline charging .3rd - CWM 6.0.4.5
Everything esle works fine except for the camera. :+1:
As for the temp ..............................................This explains why there is no white screen most of the time with "Set CPU" trick .
By this time I'm considering buying a new device , the time is just not worth it …

@TheWhisp I've tried Many things that proved that the problem is the temperature :D Is there any way to fix this ? :)
@SGmini2 My tests indicate that it's not only temperature that causes the white screen. I did a little experiment: First I installed the last known good build (07/07/2013) and deliberately heated the mobile up to about 50 °C. No white screens, even when rapidly cycling between locking and unlocking. Then I flashed build 16/11/2013 on a formatted system partition and reheated back up to 50 °C. The white screen appeared continuously, there were no successful wake-ups at all. I slowly cooled the phone down to about 15 °C and I could not trigger any white screens at all. Everything ran smoothly.
So it apparently seems to be a combination of changes in the firmware that lead to overheating on its own and on overheating trigger a bug in the GPU chipset which somehow does not get triggered on the old kernel. Weird.
Summary: 07/07/13 + heat = ok post-07/07/13 + heat = white screen; post-07/07/13 + cold = ok.
(governor: performance, fmax = 800 MHz in both test cases)
Strange. If desired, maybe I could repeat the experiment using a thermoblock at the lab and recording detailed temperature values.
Do you basically say that version 7/7/13 has less chances of white screen appearance?
If so I will try it and give you some more info.
Guy

every build after 0707 uses updated display drivers (mdp and msm_fb) from the msm 3.x kernel. The white screen means that the backlight of the LCD is on, but screen is blank (framebuffer hasn't drawn it?). The similar event happened in charger mode on the latest cm-10.2 build. FBIO_BLANK ioctl is sent to power off the screen, but it only blanks it and doesn't turn off the backlight which means that the screen becomes white.
it's not temperature issue
@TheWhisp I beg to differ. While logically it seems that the temperature should have no influence at all, my tests and the observations of others clearly show a relationship! I got no white screens on a cold phone. I'll do a planned experiment with statistics if you doubt the correlation.
It's there a way to install the previous driver ?

Ok, this might be ridiculous but nevertheless:
In msm_fb_scale_bl() and msm_fb_set_backlight() in msm_fb.c a variable "temp" is used. I guess it is intended to be a temporary variable, but could there be a variable "temp" that stores a temperature value in a broader (i.e. global) scope which interferes with the use in this function? This might really be a ridiculous claim but someone familiar with kernel hacking (I am not, sadly) could easily either debug and check if there is a problem with scope or just rename the variable and provide a test build... maybe. :-) Other than that there is really nothing that could explain why 07/07 works in high temperature conditions and post-07/07 not. It can't be the hardware...
Well, just added myself to github to post something I think after reading all these comments about temp, setcpu and white screen. In any way I'm trying to nag you TheWisp, and mainly with this blank screen trouble, but I think maybe temperature could be related, but not completely as a cause.
I live in a very hot city (about a mean of 40ºC 104ºF), and the white screen afected my phone very quickly after installing CM10.2. I had to stick to 7/7/13, and got stuck there.
I think the testing by SGMini2 and others which correlates temperature and white screens could be either:
a) I program embedded systems, and precisely, I had a problem this summer with temperature in an odd way. My system was taking a measurement from an external ADC in an SPI bus, and after the system reported 40ºC, all analog measurements were completely wrong. After a very long debugging, I found the SPI communication to the ADC got corrupted after reaching 40ºC, because it couldn't react fast enough to the microprocessor's request of data. I solved my problem by slowing down the SPI bus speed. After that, everything worked ok.
I think maybe the SGM2 white screen trouble is caused by something like what happened to me, and temperature is causing loss of data communication between the LCD and the microprocessor, and when blank ioctl is requested (or maybe when the wake ioctl is called), as communication is failing it can't react as it should.
b) almost all microcontrollers and microprocessors are affected by overheating, and thus, some protections are activated when a non optimal temperature is detected. One of the typical protections is clock throttling down. One of the side effects of throttling down the clock is that all clocks derived from them are throttled down too, and adjustments to the timers overflows are required. This could affect also communication bus clocks. Thus, temperature could cause clock throttling down, and consequently affect the communication bus clock to the LCD, effectively breaking the communication and its ability to react to a microcontroller's request.
I think both behaviours could very well explain what's happening and why there is a correlation with temperature, and also, why some terminals are rarely (or never) affected, some others are more commonly affected, and some are constantly affected (like what's my case).
sorry for the very long post, but I hope this could help in fixing this error.
Thank you for you interest. I'll try to look into it this evening.
@yoalieh I've tested your theory, and it works! My device always comes back from a screen-off with a white screen with this rom. But after putting my phone in the fridge it works until it gets warmed up again :) Just thought I let you guys know, that this might be a good lead in solving this issue.
I'd no white screen since the temperature in Egypt is 4 - 18 . I'm freezing cold but for my phone it's perfect :D
Same in Israel...

Hey!
I've made an other kernel build for solving the white screen problem. No optimizations yet, but it seems that the white screens are completely gone for me (regardless any high temperature). Thats because I've increased the clock delay of the screen contorller further. The disadvantage of this that you have to wait 4-5 secs till the screen comes on, but I'm planning on solving that too - I've already started it today, but I only managed to make things worse, so I think it will take some more time

Well …
I have updated this version (upon 290912 , don’t know if that is ok ?) and the phone just displayed the CyanogenMOD circle keeps on turning , never getting to the actual OS .
So , I have installed CM 10.2 (Wifi works better ) , and here are some facts :
The device now will not update Cm 10.1 7/7/13 .
The device has many more white screens on 10.2 than 10.1 .
The device accepts only 10.2 – 20131013 , the two newer versions also never gets to the OS part (the latest shows the new CyanogenMOD cartoon but keeps circling there) .
Q :
What version should I get to in order to install your update ?
Will an update be good for 10.2 - 20131013 as well ?
Thanks ,
Guy .
