I also have this problem. My system:

arch linux 5.16
gnome 41.3
extension version: 27

Happens to me too, except the events icon is there but invisible. When I turn the "Do Not Disturb" option, it shows up with the same icon used for the Notifications but fully opaque.

System info:

Pop!_OS 21.10
Gnome 40.4.0
