Hi!

This is on my M1 Air, with gatekeeper disabled.

What macOS version are you on @Brin-o?

ThickDrinkLots commented 1 year ago

I have the same issue. My MacOS version is 13.3.1

ThijmenDam commented 1 year ago

Does the non-silicon version of the app work via Rosetta, or are both files damaged?

The last time this happened it had something to do with the packager using outdated dependencies I think. I have some time available this week, so expect a release after the weekend if that's the culprit. Also, I'd like to switch to building via GitHub Actions instead of doing it locally, see https://github.com/marketplace/actions/electron-builder-action. This might be helpful in resolving this issue as well.

x86 version works.

nilesh commented 1 year ago

x64 version is now broken for me on Apple Silicon. So none of the versions work.

@nilesh that's strange, though I have good news - I'm working on a native version of the app again, i.e. no Electron app but one written in Swift. Initially I decided upon an Electron app as I figured there might be interest from Linux and Windows users, but this seems not te be.

If you're interested in trying an early version, you can download it here: BarTranslate Swift.app.zip

Disclaimer: since this version is still a work in progress, you might encounter inconveniences, and as of now there is no support for keyboard shortcuts (yet).

Try right-clicking on the app and selecting "Open" - you should get a different dialog box.

Any updates on this issue? I have same problem with ARM version on 13.4.1

ThijmenDam commented 1 year ago

@gabrielwhite I will release the native version of the app (i.e. written in Swift) this week. You could perhaps use the version I posted in a previous comment in this thread until then.

markbellus commented 1 year ago

@ThijmenDam hey mate, may I ask if has it been released? or where can I actually find it?

ThijmenDam commented 1 year ago

Hi @markbellus, the first native Swift version is not yet released, but development is finished. As I am currently on holiday I won't be able to publish it yet, but I'll do that ASAP when I'm home. Keep an eye on the releases page!

markbellus commented 1 year ago

@ThijmenDam Thank you for your kind reply, enjoy your time man. Will keep on eye on it, thanks for the information.

ThijmenDam commented 11 months ago

@markbellus just letting you know that I haven't forgotten about this. There is a lot going on right now for me, so I haven't found the time to publish the release. However, I plan to do so this Saturday.

markbellus commented 11 months ago

@ThijmenDam Man, no need to worry. Just take your time and get things done. Huge thanks for all the effort you put in.

ThijmenDam commented 11 months ago

The native macOS version of BarTranslate has now been released! See #24.

@markbellus could you let me know if this has resolved the problem for you? If so, I'll close this issue.

markbellus commented 11 months ago

@ThijmenDam Thanks man! Now it's working perfectly, sure you can close it. Really appreciate your work! Wish you a great weekend.

ThijmenDam commented 11 months ago

@markbellus that's great to hear! Thank you, have a good weekend too!

Unfortunately it's still not working for me. When I try to launch the app (v1.0.1) after unzipping, it shows

The application "BarTranslate.app" can't be opened. and "BarTranslate.app" will damage your computer. You should move it to the Trash.

I am on M2 MacBook Air 13', macOS Sonoma 14.1.1, with "Allow applications downloaded from - Anywhere" setting in system preferences.

I also tried to run the app with "Override Malware Protection", but it still shows

The application "BarTranslate.app" can't be opened.

I would love to start using this app to help me learn French. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to get the app running
