I had started https://github.com/timelyportfolio/googlefontR a couple of months ago. I'd be happy to team up. Have you found a workaround for https://github.com/rstudio/rmarkdown/issues/794?

No need for apologies. Benefiting in the past from your work, I am confident that what you do will be far better. I just thought I would offer some assistance, since flying solo in open source is not much fun.
