You probably don't have a compatible exe, which is only v1.0.
Except that I am using a v1.0 executable according to what Mod Loader tells me.
========================== Mod Loader 0.3.7 ==========================
Game version: GTA III 1.0 UNK_REGION
Loading basic config file modloader/.data/config.ini
I don't know then, first, it's hard to tell anything without a crashlog and crashdump, second, it works fine for me.
Here are some crashdumps I got from using this plugin, which also includes San Andreas that was downgraded from a Second Edition v2.00 to v1.00 by the downgrader tool. For some reason I couldn't get a crashdump from Vice City when it crashed when switching between borderless fullscreen to windowed mode.
Unhandled exception at 0x5D03C995 (d3d8.dll) in gta3.exe.6300.dmp: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000020.
Unhandled exception at 0x5C3A4361 (nvd3dum.dll) in gta-sa.exe.1040.dmp: 0xC0000096: Privileged instruction.
As you can see, none of these crashes are caused by this plugin.
Then how am I supposed to use this with Widescreen Fix then (for III/VC)?
I'm using it with widescreen fix just fine. If you're not sure what is causing these issues, you can always try to check on a clean install.
I just tried it on a clean re-install, no other files other than a v1.0 exe to downgrade the Steam version, CLEO, and Widescreen Fix, it seemed to work fine at first until I pressed Alt+Enter and my game crashed on the spot. Here's the new crashdump I got:
I don't see any plugins loaded, so I don't know how I can help. I can only suggest moving the game outside program files directory and trying again.
I tried loading it via Mod Loader (putting the asi and coords manager in their own folder) and it seems to work better and hasn't crashed my game yet so far, but for GTA III, it has annoying problem where the loading screen doesn't go away unless I press Alt+Enter to get out of borderless fullscreen and press those keys again to get the game to display properly.
Edit: Tried loading it at the root of the installation folder and I got the same results as using it via Mod Loader.
Edit 2: Tried using changing Widescreen Fix to use the game's resolution setting (-1 for ResX and ResY), set the game to my desktop's native resolution (1920x1080), and it produced some very bizarre results, like the sky in becoming incredibly pixelated and/or blank, and some other visual effects not working correctly unless I Alt+Enter in and out of borderless fullscreen again. How am I the only one running into these bugs and crashes with this plugin?
Maybe you're not using frame limiter? I've played through VC and SA recently, not a single issue popped up.
I have the in-game frame-rate limiter enabled and haven't touched the frame-rate cap on Project 2DFX at all, and I'm seeing bugs like these when I start up GTA III:
Edit: Tried other things — turning off D3D8to9 from Widescreen Fix, deleting my settings file, removing Project 2DFX, getting rid of everything from the Mod Loader folder, and the issues only worsen. I wish this was a joke but these next screenshots caused by this plugin from my experience speaks for itself.
I seriously doubt using this plugin with just a clean install of GTA III will fix anything.
I just tried v1.6 and all I get is this black screen with this game. Why does this plugin hate me so much with GTA III?
I have same issue. In my case removing Skygfx fix it.
I've tried this for GTA III and VC and I get nothing but crashes to desktop every time I start a game.
