[Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory] Menu formatting messed up #148

Closed georgeli94 closed 7 years ago

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

I want to use this fix as this fixes the issue where wireless hacking results in the interface being too zoomed in but the menu formatting is off. The loading screens has the loading bar stretch out of the loading screen and certain menu items overlap with each other. It looks really off. Is it possible for you to update it so only the in game stuff is proper widescreen while the menus themselves aren't?

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

What exactly is overlapping in the menu and where? I would appreciate a couple of screens. Also I think you can fix it by setting widescreen hud option to 0. Loading bar I'm not intending to fix.

How it's supposed to look vs. how it looks with your fix. The background darkens to block out the rest of the menu.

Also, I noticed that stuff like zooming or accessing the OPSAT is also off, because the filter over the screen is in 4:3 with the rest of the game sticking out of the side, like the map screen here.

20161008151418_1

It's not just a screen, there's a filter as well that just cuts off at the edges and it looks weird.

Same thing with the zoom feature.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Well, these are hard to fix, but I'll see what I can do some time later.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

The easiest would just be to keep the original menus and just have the game itself be in widescreen, I'd feel. Even the HUD elements work fine, it's really just the wireless hacking that's off due to the widescreen perspective, and if you can fix that, then Chaos Theory works perfectly fine in widescreen as is.

mirh commented 7 years ago

Always kind of lame these random quits with no explanation.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

It's nothing game breaking, just a minor thing that will take forever to fix, I'm not gonna do it. Maybe at some point some day, but at the moment - no.

mirh commented 7 years ago

Sure. Though I'd say that's what open issues are for.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

There's also labels, so if the situation changes and I'll have a lot of free time on my hands with nothing else to do - I can always reopen the issue.

mirh commented 7 years ago

Well, wontfix is pretty of an inconvenient tag to mark even "long term lots of time required to fix" issues. Anyway, your call if open issues are a constant annoyance by themselves, cheers.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

There might be a way to fix these things actually, with the current approach it would be very inconvenient to do so, but I noticed there could be a better way to do it. I'm not sure if it will work, I'll check tomorrow.

mirh commented 7 years ago

You can even work on this in 2020 for me 😛 , it just seemed odd to close issues even if in a hypothetical life something could still be done.

reyaz006 commented 7 years ago

I'd like to note that it's probably useless to argue about this here. The software is free, and there are always more important things to do than fixing one particular issue like this one.

You can contribute by trying to fix the issue yourself and provide a solution, or you can encourage the development by donating (e.g. via Patreon).

I am able to stretch fullscreen images now, but I have to redo the whole widescreen hud, because coordinates are a bit different in the new hook.

mirh commented 7 years ago

Lol. I hope it wasn't my moaning on etiquette that pushed you to this feat. Good work nonetheless.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

I dropped this after he said he wasn't gonna work on it and now there seems to be progress on this front lol

Wonder if these changes will also fix the main menu. Loading bar would also be nice to fix but that is a minor issue compared to having more difficulty navigating the UI due to overlapping text.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Appveyor is compiling updated version.

mirh commented 7 years ago

You could remove the tag from #59 as well at this point 😛

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Nope, don't think so.

LethalPlacebo commented 7 years ago

I dunno if this is the right place to ask this, but I hope you don't mind: how did you change the view for "remote hacking" (with the EEV, when hacking a computer)? I'd like to see if I can adjust that view specifically myself. Thanks for your time, and for this awesome fix!

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

I don't understand the question, I don't "adjust" anything specifically, everything's fixed as a whole.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

I'd just like to point out that this fixes most of all the issues I have with the way menus are formatted but the "Notes" section still has the usual 4:3 squished formatting. Probably just an oversight as the map, goals and everything else is fixed with the developer build.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

@georgeli94 fixed, thanks.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

20170412215324_1 btw, there's another minor glitch where the text and boxes are misaligned.

EDIT: Also I wonder why you changed the loading screens as well. It's a very minor issue that I can deal with but the loading screens were fine before and covered the entire screen.

20170412220434_1

EDIT 2: The cameras are also messed up, and the mouse actually jitters and jumps if you try to close it with the mouse because the window isn't stretched to the full wide screen.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

I need a save game to be able to reproduce both of those issues(make sure to include a profile folder as well).

and the mouse actually jitters and jumps if you try to close it with the mouse because the window isn't stretched to the full wide screen.

It's not because of that, it's because the part of the screen is moved to the right due to widescreen hud option. Previous version had a more specific set of coordinates to move things, but in latest build I move top right corner and bottom right corner as a whole, so when some things like that right bracket of the close button are in the area, they're moved as well. Mouse of course follows them.

Here's a save (Load the quicksave) where I'm in the bank in a room where one of the computers link to a camera and there's a keypad door on the way out. You can see the misaligned text at the keypad locked door and even though I disabled the camera already, the camera screen issue is still there.

As for moving the whole screen, could it be possible to stretch the screen and buttons out like you did for the OPSAT stuff? It'd look nicer and would mitigate this issue, I'd figure, right?

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Fixed.

LethalPlacebo commented 7 years ago

Please pardon my ignorance, but how do I download the updated version of the widescreen fix?

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

LethalPlacebo commented 7 years ago

I am a fool. Thank you!

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

btw, seems like objective boxes are fixed but door code ones still aren't.

Here's a save showing you a location.

EDIT: Seems like some objective boxes aren't either as when I restarted the mission, the first box telling me to enter the bank was also misaligned.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Provide save files for whatever you can, but also 1080p screens (preferably png with minimum compression) would help. I'll get to it as soon as I can.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Text should be okay now. I also fixed more brackets in overlay menus, hopefully that didn't break anything else.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9xnv34yzka3cpy2/Profiles.zip?dl=0

The boxes are fixed, but the telemetric lockpick interactive button is misaligned. Seems like there's a lot of specialized sections that are misaligned.

Sorry I can't get screenshots but my Steam isn't working properly at the moment (have the retail version).

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Fixed. What do you mean by "a lot of specialized sections that are misaligned."?

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

Sorry for the late reply. Was busy.

It seems like in various different contexts, such as door codes or certain objectives, the boxes are misaligned. Just seems like there's no "general" object that handles every single one hence why it seems like we're just plugging individual holes rather than a fix across the board.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Well, I probably can fix it in a more general way. Give me a couple of another examples, I'll take a look.

georgeli94 commented 7 years ago

Will do once I'm able to play again.

ghost commented 7 years ago

Just started replaying SCCT so I'll be testing the dev version as well (thanks for still improving the fix, sent you small tip as an appreciation) - there are some bugs I found so far, but mostly a minor issues:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7wkKV3CCDfcbjk1Tm93YW9KSVU

BTW are there any notes for the dev versions of your fixes to find what's improved over the stable version?

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Basically this issue is the only thing improved. I'll check these issues tomorrow, thanks.

ThirteenAG commented 7 years ago

Can't do anything with keypad, but fixed everything else. splintercell3 2017-04-24 12-39-20-48
