[GTA2] Game won't open at all #899

So when I play GTA 2 without the widescreen fix, it works fine. However, when i install the widescreen fix, running the exe does nothing. So I attempted to run it in a Windows XP virtual machine. I installed the widescreen fix, and instead of doing nothing, it gave me this error: image "

Hi, here is a solution which worked for me (Windows 10):

  1. Install the latest widescreen patch to the GTA2 directory.
  2. Click on Start & type optionalfeatures & press Enter

The dialog "Turn windows features on or off" appears. Enable Legacy Components -> DirectPlay

  1. Change the compatibility settings of all GTA executables - reduce the color mode to 16Bit color (65536)

this worked, but only once, and now it shows a black screen and then shuts off.

I have the same problem. With the fix, game will not launch and no message would appear. I tried on three computers, 1× win7 and 2× win10.
