Distributed Power #102

Multiple reactors on the ship would make it so you literally could Reroute power to the shield systems!

I imagine a screen with nodes for the reactors and for the systems. Each reactor would have a certain power output and that output would be divided evenly between the different systems it is connected to. A reactor could also divert it's power to batteries or to kinetic dynamos (bigger batteries, basically), which could then in turn power systems.

(If you were smart, you would hook the reactors directly to the batteries and then have the batteries power the systems, but I digress)

Then, power could be routed away from damaged systems, or damaged reactors would have to have other reactors compensate for them. You could also learn about doing parallel power distribution.

One thing to note would be making sure that systems don't have too much power - this would be a good constraint for making sure that they don't just put every reactor on every system for maximum redundancy (that's boring)

I think this would be another good use for the dynamic node system.

Would a system like a single reactor, but having a "node screen" where you could reroute part of the power so you still have both systems powered on the main screen but you have one weaker than the other?

Example: Port and starboard shields both need five bars of energy from the main power screen. The node screen however lets you reroute part of port shields five bars to starboard making starboard more powerful and able to take a bigger blast.

The thing is. Why not just allow us to put more bars in a given system to make it more powerful on the main screen. Do we have a drawback where it causes heat faster so it's something you don't want to rely on but you can do in a pinch? Need to transport a bigger thing than normal. Reroute to transporters, but don't keep it there or you will fry them with a bigger damage control step for the DC guy to do.

My thoughts on the matter.
