This is confusing if you (say) limit the headline display to 3 headlines. It'll only mark the 3 visible headlines read, and leave all the other ones alone.
this is reasonable in so far as you've probably not seen the other ones but really annoying when you have set up a new feed and have already read all the articles the feed presents.

Minimally this needs to be documented better.
Also maybe add an option to control the behavior.
