I've been messing around with this and it seems like it may have the same issue for testing as I mentioned with nats core in https://github.com/ThreeDotsLabs/watermill-nats/pull/8

Does seem like the implementation would be pretty simple though. Maybe its worth adding a second mode for the watermill test that establishes subscriptions first, could be a lot of work though.
