Another option is a single tiddler, in the space, which has tags for all the members. The upshot of that would be that everyone who is a member would know when someone has been added and there wouldn't be a bunch of tiddlers. This could be taken a step further and the tiddler could be both tagged with the members and have as its text the membership list. Thus when a member got a notification they could see (by more than just the
A (potentially significant) problem with this solution is scale: over a few tens of users the tiddler gets unwieldy.
I agree that writing into the new member's space is not a great idea.
However there have been discussions of having personal notification bags which are transient. This might be worth further discussion.
Adding a new member to a space should create a tiddler tagged for their attention. This does assume that they are aware of the social model surrounding tiddlers in TiddlySpace.
There is a choice as to which space the tiddler should live in, either the member's home space or the space they were added to.
The first option could be perceived by some as an unwanted intrusion and I imagine is non-trivial to implement as a new bag with the appropriate policies would have to be created for this purpose. The second option is more light-touch to do and what I would go for.
