What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Install software as instructed
2.Elevate to root privileges via Terminal (sudo -i)
3.Bash reports a syntax error on line 123

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Snow Leopard 10.6.4
Git version 1.7.2

Please provide any additional information below.

I have reverted back to git version 1.7.1.1 which does not cause this issue.

I suspect it may be some interaction with something on your system.  Can't 
reproduce here.  If you can isolate or continue to experience issue, please 
re-open
