Pm Phone # Still getting jumbled #137

Closed jayokra closed 10 years ago

I created a PM account and then tried to edit my phone # and it added dashs to the number that deleted one of the numbers.

Is this in the account settings?

jayokra commented 11 years ago

No, this is in PM management. The phone number looks correct, but when i double click on it to edit, dashs are added to break up the phone number but the phone number is already divided into three text bubbles. Do we need these three text bubbles? or, can we just have one text bubble that formats it into a phone number with dashes when done editing?

I don't quite understand what you are saying. Would you prefer three text bubbles with no dashes? If it is just one bubble users may be confused how the number is formatted. For example should they put 10 digits or 11. Do I use delimiters or characters to break up the number into sections or not? What do I use to characters can I use like parenthesizes, dashes or periods? There's a lot of places for users to enter malformed data.

This might be too complicated for now, but I've seen a lot of sites do what google does, which is allow for a textbox and then it formats it:

https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?service=mail&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F&ltmpl=default

So, if ten digits, then it takes the last 9, and it removes any non number characters and then reformats as only nine numbers.

We can talk about this more in person. Its not hard. Its what I used to have. Its just not clear.

jayokra commented 11 years ago

Yeah, Tim thought the same. I think the version we have now is probably fine.
