Supposedly, this has a lot higher entropy - e.g. https://www.credit-suisse.com/ch/de/privatkunden/online-und-mobile-banking/sicherheit/securesign.html ?

Yes, but they are also not backed by any open standard I know of. Using QR codes is more portable, I think.
