Early game food? #27

I've been playing the game for roughly 6 hours now, and am enjoying myself except for one thing - I keep starving to death. I spent about an hour going through the questbook and JEI and can't find a way to even get seeds. Am I missing something, or is it intended you sustain yourself on zombie flesh?
