Update channels.md, Add a voice channel in "THE POND".

Add a voice channel to 'THE POND'. I've named it 'Lily Pad' to follow the pond theme. If we want to add more than one, we can use 'Lily Pad 2,' 'Lily Pad 3,' and so on.

hey thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure about adding a voice channel, because I don't think it fully goes in line with the intent of the server - mainly the 'slow and small' goals. Could you explain a bit more about why you want a voice channel, and how you would want it to be used, so that I can understand better? :)

I think the main use of the voice channel would be to program and chill with other programmers. It could also be a place where people share music.

I see it as a quiet place where you can work on your projects, ask for comments from others, or seek help if you're stuck.

I also think this would be cool to have. Just a place to chill while you're working on something, and other people can join in and then you can talk about what you're making, or not.

hey thank you for explaining more about it :) Here are some of the things I'm thinking about:

one of them is moderation - if there is some abusive or offensive communications on the channel, I'm not sure how we'd know about it. if someone reports it afterwards, it'll be hard to confirm that or not. I don't know if discord has tooling around that or not? I don't expect this to happen on the server, but still it's good to think about.

another I think about is how purposeful it would feel - like, if it's for general unstructured use, I'm not sure if people would be able to use it as effectively? not sure

I can foresee it being used by a small number of people. I reckon that most people won't have the time to use it, with jobs, life, etc, which wouldn't be in line with the wide and flat goal. I think this also means that it would feel like it's hard to keep up with what's going on in the server. I don't want people to think that they need to be online a lot to see what's going on (slow and small).

I think, perhaps...... Maybe we could try some sort of timed event or something, where we do a stage/voice channel for a specific purpose. That could be fun + feelgood? I was thinking that I might try that for when the next video comes out, but that's way off, so we could pick something much sooner than that.

That's my current thinking ^ It doesn't mean I'm against it, just sharing my current thoughts :)

I agree with you. I don't want to make the server feel forced or make people feel left out; I just wanted it to be optional, not a forced thing. I thought of it in the sense that maybe you see someone streaming what they're doing alone in the channel, and you enter to say hi and chat about it.

Obviously, moderation is going to be a problem, but I don't think there are going to be many bad actors since you need to pay for the Patreon to enter, and there aren't many members yet. I just really love the community that you built, and I thought that a voice channel would be a cool way to talk to other members with similar interests from around the world. But I understand the problem with it, so no worries. Maybe in the future :)

PS: I think that a timed event could be a great idea!

Sorry to leave this hanging. I think that I would like to try a timed event at some point, that would be nice. Maybe when we get nearer to the next video coming out :)
