This sounds to me like an issue with the formatting, folder structure or
files on the SD card. It could also suggest the card is corrupted or
broken. I'd suggest checking the instructions here again:
I'm having different issues with the RM I just built depending on which
hex file is uploaded. With the hex from the polyfather link, the module
will be locked with only the top left LED on with an SD card inserted. No
other function. If booted without the SD card, it will slowly blink through
the four top LEDs sequentially, until I insert a card and the top left LED
is locked on with no function. Then remains locked when I remove the card.
With the hex from the github code, the issues are the same only when the
LEDs flash while looking for a card, they do all at the same time, and the
bottom LED remains on.
