I couldn't install the addon in Blender 4.0

Hello Mert! I'm sorry you are having trouble with the install. What operating system are you on? And, if you would describe (or screenshot) the error message I'm sure we'll have it fixed.

Hi Michael, thanks for quick reply! I work on Ubuntu 22.04 When I click on install, I only get the message on the bottom of the page. But I cant find the addon to activate it in the addons list. Nor have I different import options. Thank you for your help in advance [image: image.png]

No worries! Navigate to where the file downloaded (usually /home/username/Downloads/) and unzip it. Inside is the Addon file itself named 'ply-as-verts.zip'. Inside of Blender, when you click Install (Addon) and the file requester opens, point it to that file. Once installed, make sure to click the little checkbox just to the left of the Addon name.

Hi Michael, unfortunately I still got the same message at the bottom and then cant get the name of the addon in the list, when I search for "ply" in addons. Is it possible that this happens because I use Blender 4.0?

I'm not sure why it doesn't work. I tested it thoroughly on 4.0 with no issues but that was Windows 10. I'll try it on our Mint box and let you know.

I have good news and bad:

The Good: I installed a fresh copy of Blender 4.0.1 Linux from the website, downloaded the Addon, and everything worked flawlessly.

The Bad: Why doesn't yours work?

You may have one of the Filters enabled in Edit>Preferences>Addons (sorry for the bad photo). If Enabled Addons Only is checked, the new one won't appear as it has its own checkbox that needs to be checked (it's a Blender thing).

If not that, did you install Blender directly from the website or is it a snap?

Research continues!

No worries! Navigate to where the file downloaded (usually /home/username/Downloads/) and unzip it. Inside is the Addon file itself named 'ply-as-verts.zip'. Inside of Blender, when you click Install (Addon) and the file requester opens, point it to that file. Once installed, make sure to click the little checkbox just to the left of the Addon name.

I do not have the check box 'enabled add-ons only' on and should see it. When I import a PLY it behaves as if I do not have the add on installed.

I'm using Blender 4.0.2 on ARM Mac and encounter the same issue mentioned in https://github.com/TombstoneTumbleweedArt/import-ply-as-verts/issues/18#issuecomment-1837094782.

I installed the 3.0 plugin when I was using Blender 3.6.4. And when installing Blender 4.0.2, a "replace" operation happened. The reason might be I didn't uninstall Blender 3.6.4 or uninstall the plugin before installing Blender 4.0.2.

I solve this problem by click the "Load Settings from Blender 3.6" (a blur name because after clicking the button it disappears... which is in the red frame before I click it) on the splatting window of Blender 4.0.

Hello. I came here with the same issue at first. I think the confusion is that if you download Import_PLY_as_Verts_3.zip from the GitHub releases page, and try to import that zip file into Blender 4.0 (at least on Windows), it does nothing and does not display an error. However, extracting PLY_As_Verts.zip out of the release zip file and trying to import PLY_As_Verts.zip directly works perfectly. Just in case anyone else runs into this issue.
