gui doesn't handle normal unicode charsets (refuses to read file, can't receive through windows) #491

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Try creating a file name like:

[Commie] Fate ⁄ Zero - 09 [59174840].mkv.torrent

From this season's Tokyo lineup....

It's fine in transmission, but the GUI chokes-- both
with Windows passing it via DDE, and trying to read it 
directly...

How can you not handle Unicode?  you're not a Win98 program!

(Last OS in Windows to NOT handle Unicode ... )....
Win2000/XP and beyond have all handled unicode..now
were on Win7.... 

Maybe a matter of relinking with different libs?

Note -- once it was loaded, it *displayed* just fine.

It  just didn't want to read  the file name (you don't
need file contents to reproduce this problem)...

the above file name alone (cut and pasted) will repro the problem, (i.e... the 
slash is a "display /" used to display "/" without being a real "/" char...thus 
you can use it in filenames there's a "\", and ":"
in the same group of chars...

I started using them in music file names where slashes and colons are common, 
about 5-6 years ago...

Has taken a while for the world to catch up...

Parts of it still are...(apparently ;-)  )...

Problem is FreePascal core not supported unicode well. Its libraries is 
compatible with very old Delphi/TurboPascal, that is really from ages before 
win98 :)
Solution is using different units,  for example unicode chars problem is solved 
in this patch 
http://code.google.com/p/transmisson-remote-gui/issues/detail?id=454 using 
"ufiles" unit. Ufiles also not perfect, need this patch for work on modern os.

Can that patch be merged so unicode will work properly?   Much of the world is 
using Unicode now, so being stuck with something that's 8-bits only, causes 
problems.

TurboPascal is about -- 20-30 years old?  Sticking to a language that is a 
quarter of a century old doesn't seem like it would make for the easiest 
development environment.

Maybe C?  or C++?  ;-)
