Google plus does not sort by date correctly, posts get buried #452

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Post to Google Plus
2. Wait a day
3. See your post get buried dozens of posts deep way below other things that
had no activity of any kind for over a week.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

* I expect Google Plus posts to be sorted by date. I understand new comments
"bump" posts back up to the top, as expected and desired, but I do not accept
inactive posts for over a week being listed first (dozens of them, my post is
buried about a week into the past).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

* Web browser Firefox and iPhone latest updated google plus app.

Please provide any additional information below.

* At first my very latest post appears at the top. In only a little time, all
my posts get buried way deep below old inactive posts. For example, I posted
something about "HNS - human naming system" January 26. A friend commented.
Today I look and it's buried way backwards below posts from a week ago with
zero activity.

For example, this post with no activity dated Jan 25:
https://plus.google.com/103128969970264876524/posts/DXjEzL8UgFr

The above is listed ABOVE my post dated Jan 27:
https://plus.google.com/102543508274524922233/posts/QmuNMQbB4pN

* PLEASE fix the problem sorting posts in Google plus. Since it doesn't appear
to be based on what client you are using, it must be a deep sortation problem
on the server side.

This is a feature request for Google+, not for the Google+ Platform. The best
way for this feedback to be heard is by using the Send Feedback option in your
Google+ Stream (click the cog icon) or by posting in the Google+ Discuss
Community on Google+.

I can not figure out the order of posts. Some of them just disappear for
awhile, then pop back, not in order of date or person.

Same problem for me. My posts go wandering and weird ancient posts from
friends suddenly come to the top - just crazy! Ok you don't want to copy
Facebook Timeline but at least put the posts in some kind of order. Yeesh.

some problem here... especially post from other users / groups are "randomly"
displayed somewhere in the order... even posting to another post does't push up
the origin post...

I have completed a feedback form about this. I suggest everyone who finds the
same problem also does so.

Filled out a feedback form where a post from today is behind the one of
yesterday and one from the 13.05.2013 is before the one of yesterday. What a
mess

Same problem for me on Crom browser and iPhone app. Problem appears to be when
I edited a post. The edit it post then moved out of order. This was a private
community post.

Why is there no movement on this? Is it seriously that hard in a responsive
world, where everything is client side, to sort by date? the heck?

Same here. How many people need to complain for them to put in a simple option

Same here, this behavior makes Google+ useless if you like us are trying to use
it as a replacement for a traditional discussion forum. Since we're only three
people it seemed to make more sense to use a private community instead of
installing a discussion forum on a server, but this totally worthless sort
order makes me wonder...

Hey Google, any chance you could at least comment on whether this is
intentional or just indicative of a complete lack of competence from your G+
team?

This is a product issue and out of the hands of the API/Platform team.

I would like to have all the posts mine and others in date order. Should be
simple enough. This mixing the stuff up is humbug.

Google's indifference to this annoying but merely lends strength to the rumours
that it's planning to close down Google+

I've been reporting this problem regularly. Nothing in my feed is showing up
in any semblance of order. I have a post from yesterday at the top of my feed,
followed by something from Monday, then yesterday, then this morning, and THEN
something posted within the past ten minutes. Followed by whatever the hell
their random generator decides to spit at me.

I've given up expecting anything to be done about this, as clearly Google Knows
Best and our desires for chronological posts are just wrong.

It's no surprise that the uptake of G+ has been woeful.

"passing the buck" by suggesting posting elsewhere is just crazy. Forward the
post, for heaven's sake, if the idea is to actually help people.
