I would LOVE to see this feature too :-)
Since i am currently developing a social module for Moodle (LMS) and i only
have the emails of the users available to me as reference by which i can search
for their public post on Google plus.

Does anyone know if this is a feature yet and of so what would be the
parameters to search for the Google plus users details via email address?

Google has not announced any addition of such a feature.

Guys, please, make this happen

as far as I can tell right now this isn't working anywhere, not even in the G+
UI in the browser (Firefox 15, W7). The iOS app even states in the search field
"search by name or email", but it still doesn't work for email.

I would be happy to enter an email hash if needed like on gravatar. Searching
by email is really needed.

If you enter an email associated with a g+ account into a google contacts card,
it will bind to the profile associated with the email.

It looks like Google simply doesn't want to steal users away from Gravatar ;)
Seriously, any service in the second decade of the 21st century which aspires
to be a global account service (and Google is not the only one - there's
Facebook and others) must have an anonymous API for retrieving basic
information about its users, including the profile picture (of course, privacy
settings permitting). For an example of how to do it right, without leaking
e-mail addresses for spammers to collect, see how Gravatar does it:
http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement/images/ (and
http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement/profiles/).

I am trying to set up a group within my workplace and need to send invites but
I cant because without be able to see the email address I can not guarantee I
have the right person, especially if its a common name. This enhancement is so
important - come on Google.

I would like to see this feature too. When some organisation uses Google
account, it would be great to look up the profile using the email within that
org.
Please let me know if it is possible.

http://www.ninjaromeo.com/search-add-friends-google-plus-email/ as long as the
user's settings are on private, you should be able to find them

Any information that is publicly available should be available to an app. This
typically includes user image! Yet, I cannot seem to find a way to get an
image using a user's email address.
