Hangouts force-closes on starting a video chat with a GL error

How does the product behavior differ from your expectations?
Engaging in a video call/chat in any way causes a force close of Hangouts.

Describe, step-by-step, how to reproduce this issue.
1. Start Hangouts on a 2.3 device.
2. Select a contact.
3. Start a video call.

Describe the impact of this bug
Can't use video calls/chat at all.

When did this bug start happening?
Ever since I started using Hangouts (I didn't have it installed before version 
2.1.327 (1328022-30) though).

When does the bug occur?
Consistently every time I try to engage in a video chat.

Describe any workarounds you have found
None.

Device: Motorola Atrix 4G
Android version: 2.3.7
Hangouts version: 2.1.327 (1328022-30), released Sep 18 2014
Error logged: RuntimeException: glAttachShader: glError 1281

Logcat of the crash attached, I can provide more information if needed.

Hangouts updated this morning, the version is now 2.4.78234730. However this 
problem is still present, yet nobody has even responded to this bug report...

I started recently having the same problem. I'm using a Nexus 5, before and 
after latest Hangouts update.

Whenever  I try to make a call it automatically just says it force  closed and 
I have to tape on the OK to clear????
