We have some files that describe the video mode this way:

Jones in the Fast Lane (16 Color) v1.000.060 (1991)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [kfx][720k][!].zip
Jones in the Fast Lane (256 Color) v1.000.060 (1991)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [IMA][720k][!].zip

while most are this way:

Labyrinthe de la Reine des Ombres, Le (CGA) (Fr) (1991)(RETZ) [Adventure, Educational].zip
Labyrinthe de la Reine des Ombres, Le (EGA) (Fr) (1991)(RETZ) [Adventure, Educational].zip

Then we have some this way: Last Half of Darkness, The (256-Color VGA) (Installer) (1991)(SoftLab Laboratories) [Adventure].zip

Opinion: "16 color" etc has some advantages. Documentation and disk labels sometimes reflect this specific wording (see sierra titles) and doesn't require display adapter to number of colors conversion in one's head.

The vast majority of titles are in xGA nomenclature today and would be an easier lift in general to convert the dozen or so over to "xGA" nomenclature. We now know that even CGA can display 1024 colors, so I believe it is better to list the display hardware supported over a color count.

Related, I don't believe we need to list each display type: Mixed-Up Fairy Tales (EGA) (1991)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure, Educational].zip Mixed-Up Fairy Tales (VGA) (1992)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure, Educational].zip

It may be simpler overall to allow the highest/bestest display type supported be the default one and only tag the outliers.
