following james and mikotan direction, the schedule will be making moves to native download via the app stores of android and ios. for this reason, the app will be ported into react-native.
create a new branch react-native and turn it into a functional blank slate: delete all files and re-initialize a new project that:
uses react native as a starter and
includes typescript out of the box
establish minimum viable version that works on web (via expo) and on android test platform
get a npm run start workflow going
do not run npm run deploy or deal with website deployment in this issue, save it for a follow-on issue
gradually re-implement base minimum functions
if mobile-friendly react native widgets exist, phase out the older bootstrap equivalents with these, provided they function equally in the web version
append additional details as needed
this issue supersedes #60 since vite is no longer being used
