Territories #19

The game world should have some version of "gang zones" or "regions" or "territories".

I'm not totally sure how this would work yet. Maybe different zones could give players bonuses or raise the amount of items spawning in that region.

Below is a map (#8) of region data which could be used for either territories or territories could be sub-areas of these.

unknown

Here is that region map overlaid on the satellite map with region names too (download to see the names)

okay so first I'll create some terminology so we know what everything means:

zones

[11:21 AM] Southclaws: I don't know what resources are yet, but stuff like water and fuel, etc I guess? [11:21 AM] Southclaws: depending on what kind of resource a zone provides, it has a different way of "capturing" it [11:21 AM] Southclaws: basically, a timed activation of some machine [11:22 AM] Southclaws: the plot twist is that when that machine is activated, everyone on the server knows about it [11:22 AM] KotlinHipster666: there can also be zones for different levels of playing progress [11:22 AM] Southclaws: so the individual or group who are capturing it will have to defend it from other players for like, 10 minutes or so [11:22 AM] KotlinHipster666: for example sf, will mostly have empty bottles as a ressource and let you gain rather less money [11:22 AM] Southclaws: (some amount of time)(edited) [11:22 AM] Southclaws: yeah [11:22 AM] Southclaws: so LV might be fuel heavy [11:22 AM] KotlinHipster666: ye [11:22 AM] Southclaws: now I thought of another thing too [11:23 AM] Southclaws: say you or your group (doesn't matter, there's no group "system" anyway) captures all the zones in a district - in the example above, they capture all 4 of those zones so they "own" SF_Industrial [11:23 AM] Southclaws: maybe that could provide some bonus too [11:23 AM] Southclaws: not sure what, but something [11:24 AM] KotlinHipster666: Okay, but that would imply that groups had to choose leader that act as a group representative [11:24 AM] Southclaws: not necessarily [11:24 AM] KotlinHipster666: in order to know that some entity actually owns the zone(edited) [11:24 AM] Southclaws: a "group" might just mean a collection of players who all have their radio set to the same frequency [11:24 AM] Southclaws: no need to "/invite" or any of that bullshit [11:24 AM] KotlinHipster666: and if u accidently change your frequency you'd loose the zone bonus? [11:24 AM] Southclaws: and I'm thinking we can use clustering techniques to know who captured a zone [11:25 AM] KotlinHipster666: clustering techniques? [11:26 AM] Southclaws: okay so say 4 players are in a zone capturing it, those 4 players are:

Another idea that's just appeared is the usage of NPCs to protect some of these zones. It can probably be done.
