TTminer runs on one worker not on another #20

Dev: Look at last post of mine. Maybe the cause of the issue.

I have two workers with different Nvidia GPU's. The workers have the same OS, the same Nvidia driver and the same version of CUDA as far as I know. TTMiner 2023.04.00 works on one worker and not on the other.

  1. Worker one, Nvidia-smi reports the following GPU's:

I've tested all four GPU's and TTminer runs and achieves hashrate. Yet when I try to run TTminer on this worker it seems to try to use OPEN_CL and hangs or doesn't mine and it gets a kernel error. At 17:45:10.051 it gets 4 warnings and 30 errors. Do you have any suggestions of what may be wrong? Why is it trying to use OPEN_CL instead of CUDA? I don't know what to do next.

Yes. Both workers are running HiveOS in maintenance mode with no communication to Hive. Doing this for fan control. RainbowMiner is used to control the running of miners. So it is basically Ubuntu 18.04. RainbowMiner uses its own libraries not HiveOS . All miners are delivered by RainbowMiner. As far as I know both workers are configured exactly the same except for GPUs. The results I showed you were run manually in a shell script not by RainbowMiner. The miners do use RainbowMiner libraries (which should be identical between workers) when I run the shell script. I can paste a copy of the script if you need it. This is why I’m confused that the worker with the 3090, 4069ti, and 4090 identifies OPEN_CL whereas the worker with 3060ti, 4060ti, and two 4070’s identify as CUDA. Nvidia-smi shows the exact same driver and the exact same version of CUDA.
Both workers uname command shows the same kernel version and lsb_release shows the same version of Ubuntu 18.04.6. What I don’t know and will try tomorrow is to update Ubuntu using apt update, apt upgrade to see if that fixes the issue. Anything else you need?

The latest version of TT is compiled on ubuntu 20 since nvidia gave up the support for ubuntu 18 long time ago. My guess is that for some reason TT cannot load the cuda interface and falls back to opencl. Please let me know if you have still issues after the update. I can provide you with a 'debug' version that creates a detailed logfile with more information what happend.

I'm running the latest version of TT. Glad to know it was built on ubuntu 20. If it is not related to the GPU's in that worker then there must be something different between the installs on my four workers because TT runs on 3 out of 4 of my workers, all on Ubuntu 18.04 but with different GPU's. I may just reinstall the OS on the failing worker and see if that fixes the issue. Will let you know if I need the "debug" version. Thanks. Rand

I thought I found the problem (but not so). Reloaded OS and installed NVIDIA 525 driver, but there appears to be missing cuda packages comparing the packages between a working worker and my non-working worker for Ethash. I installed all of the missing packages. Now using dpkg to search installed packages, the Nvidia, OpenCL, and Cuda packages are the same on both systems. TTminer does mine a few algos, such as Blake3Altherium but not Ethash.

Still picks the OPEN_CL kernel instead of CUDA and it get errors:

SrbMinerMulti can mine Ethash just fine. Assuming it is using CUDA but it doesn't say that I see:

Next searching cuda (note that they're hiveos libraries, but the rainbowminer versions are used because of the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to use rainbowminer's library. And in later tests of the beta version of TT-Miner on miner3 I unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

There is a difference. Just noticed it. On miner 4 TT-Miner output says compute-8.6 and I'm using the original version of TT-Miner. On miner3 the output of the beta version of TT-Miner output says compute-8.9. and miner3 the original version of TT-Miner tried to use OPEN_CL not CUDA and failed.

I can not see differences in install NVIDIA-CUDA-COMPUTE or any NVIDIA or CUDA install. Both are NVIDIA-CUDA-COMPUTE-525. The /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cuda libraries also appear identical,

Cuda 89 is likely selected because of the GPU's. The 4090 I believe requires CUDA 89 as delivered by Nvidia per this website aron.dk . Hi- Thanks for your detailed reports. I have not find a fix for the problem, but I'm working on in. The problem seems to be the driver/cuda version. TT tries to use the 'best/highest' compute that is possible with the available driver and cuda it finds. So my guess is that there might be a difference in wither the driver or the cuda driver that TT can load. I suspect the cuda version. TT loads "libcuda.so.1", "libnvidia-ml.so.1" and either "libnvrtc.so" or "libnvrtc.so.12.2.91". The later comes with TT in the nvidia folder. Is that something that could be the problem? I think a later driver can fix the problem. Thanks.
