Applied minor patches in order to run grunt

@pjschmidt3 @lifeBCE what will it take to get the build passing again? i'd like to start merging some changes upstream.

The unit tests that were broken with the recent refactor work need to be fixed/updated. This is something that should happen in the future prior to submitting a pull request.
